January 25, 2010

Now is the time to be thinking about booking your spring trip for striped bass in our area. Spring is the best time of the season to connect with a big fish, as well as lots of fish. It is by far, the most productive time of the season here in Narragansett Bay, in Rhode Island.
Because of that, the spring fishing dates go VERY QUICKLY. There is only so much time and we can only take so many people, therefore it is EXTREMELY important to book your dates EARLY to get the day or dates that you would like to fish. Every year, we turn away a lot of people who had waited until the last minute to book a trip and there were no time slots avaiable. Even sailing twice a day, morning and evenings, we couldn't and can't keep up with the demand for this time of the year.
So if you're thinking of tangling with a big striper this coming season, now is the time to begin thinking about that trip and getting it down in our reservation book.
It now looks like we'll be able to offer, once again, the combo striped bass and fluke trip during the spring time. Last year we were locked out of this fishery due to regualtions that had no bearing on our businesses, but we were caught in the middle with the recreational anglers who couldn't fish from May 1st until June 17th, and had a size limit of 21-inches. In May and June -21-inch fish aren't much of a problem, however, after that it gets dicey as these big fish leave the bay and head to deeper water.
For 2010, we are currently looking at a fish of 19 /12-inches, with a bag limit of six fish per man, and an open season from May 1st to the end of the year. Being able to fish in May and early June will allow us to target those big Doormats that migrate into our bay waters early in the season. This is the time of year for a shot at a fish over 10-pounds!!!
Remember that our Shallow Water Striper University is also coming up in March on the 12th-13th and 14th. We can only accomodate about 150 anglers, so if you are considering attending this event, sign up TODAY-don't delay as we are filling up much faster than we ever anticipated.
One of the features of this event will be Friday evening, when we have use of the Hotel's swimming pool. We will be demonstrating how to fish soft plastics, how they should be worked, what they look like in the water and how to rig them properly. We will also be including some different baits like the new Swimbaits on the market today was well as some unconventional baits we use for catching striped bass. This is a jammed-packed, educational weekend, with lots of prizes, raffles, charter trips, and more.
The Sheraton Motor Inn is offering our students a special package if they are coming from out of town. First night, $99.00, the second night is HALF PRICE>>> $45.00. Two guys is only $72.00 each for the weekend. You can't beat that.
This season, you'll also get to see some of the best and most High-Tec Fish Finding gear on the market today. Our sponsor, Lowrance Electronics, has equipped the White Ghost with a brand new HDS-10 Unit. This unit is High Definition, 3-D, SideScanning Sonar with incrediable viewing ability. Together, we will get to see things no one ever thought was there or existed. Hidden rock piles, deep cut channels, wrecks, bottom debris, fish holding areas, and more. We'll be able to view the bottom like never before. Left, right, down, with 3-D imagery as well as having the ability to place the cursor on fish and tell us how far away and how deep it is. Truely Star Wars technology!!
Our new radar system is now Digital. It only gives off 1/20,000th of the radiation of a normal radar unit and is accurate to within 3-feet of the boat. Clutter is GONE. Just a true picture of what is actually out there in front of us.
So get ready to fish aboard one of the most high tech fishing machines out there today as well as one of the safest. Our boat is Safety Equipped for a vessel of 65-feet in length. We don't have to go to this extent to be legal, we do it for the safety of our clients. Period!!
Hope to see many of you at the shows this winter.
